Monday 10th September
I need to record that date somewhere. On the night of 10th September 2012 I sat down in our study, annoyed with pretty much everything, and began building "WeTheUsers".
In its earliest incarnation it lived in a subdomain of my personal webspace. By the next weekend it arrived in it's own domain, where it has now been for two whole weeks. In those two weeks it gained email notifications, messaging, friends, the firehose, photo rotation, RSS feeds, event notifications, a user directory, and all kinds of other things.
The site now has over 250 users - all through word of mouth. Last saturday it fed over 15,000 pages. To date it has fed 50,000 pages.
None of it was planned.
OK I am logged in, tried Chromium and Firefox. How do I 'Like' a post ? Is there a heart symbol somewhere ? Stoopid of London.
Refresh your browser cache - there should be a grey tick mark next to posts you have not written. When you click it, it changes shade, and then turns green.
Correction (before you call me out on it) - the tick is next to posts other people have written :)
So basically what you're saying is that you're kind of spectacular. ;)
Only two weeks through word of mouth. I'd expect the user count to go up to the 10's of thousands by early next year.
Simply, wow! Great job.
Most of us wish we were this brilliant!
It seems like such a simple idea; one that, I think, the big boys are missing. Other people sense it and we're seeing this in the migration from Tumblr and other services such as Google+.
One thing I've noticed, is that the posts here are much more thoughtful and longer (it seems to me) than the typical Tumblr post. I don't have empirical data to back that up, but it's just something that I've noticed.
Jon, I'm your biggest fan in this enterprise, and I wish you a ton of luck with it. And when you get big, don't forget about us little people. :D
So awesome!!!
Job well done, sir.
