The fact that this excites me is a little scary...
The company I work for is beta-testing a web-based editor for coding. All of the processing is done on the cloud in our computing center.
This means people would no longer have to download software to their machines. Our programming language would no longer be restricted to Windows. (Okay, we run on Unix but I don't support that, so it doesn't count in my world.)
I am a fan.
Have you seen coderun ?
Isn't it amazing how computing has gone from terminals with back-end servers...to front-end PCs...and now returning to back-end? Soon most all apps will be run from cloud computing.
10(?) years ago Gates said he envisioned most folks primary computer to be a handheld device like a cellphone. I called him an idiot..
Oops.
I have not seen Coderun. Just looked it up - it doesn't work with SAS, but still way cool.
